The bill would restore the 2020 rule that removed gray wolves from the Endangered Species List in the lower 48 states and block future court challenges. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and Public Lands Council praised the measure, saying it gives livestock producers much-needed certainty. Minnesota Representatives Michelle Fischbach and Pete Stauber, co-sponsors of the bill, hailed the vote as a win for rural communities, especially farmers and ranchers facing growing wolf populations. Gray wolves were first delisted under the Trump administration in 2020, but that move was overturned by a federal court in 2022. Since 1974, when wolves were added to the Endangered Species Act, their population has surged past recovery goals by more than 300 percent.
