The Trump administration is considering a plan that could offset a possible expansion of small refinery exemptions from renewable fuel requirements. Reuters reports the administration could add roughly 500 million gallons to the 2027 biofuel mandate while also considering nearly doubling refinery exemptions, from 990 million renewable fuel credits to as much as 1.8 billion. Farm and biofuel groups are warning that larger exemptions would reduce demand for corn, soybean oil, canola and other biofuel feedstocks. In a letter to President Trump, the coalition urged the administration to reject the increase, saying larger exemptions could weaken farm prices and stall new biofuel investments. A decision on the refinery exemptions is expected by the end of the month.
