Cattlemen from across the state gathered to address beef policy, trade, markets and more at the 2018 Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association Convention. “There was also a focus on protecting your legacy as a cattleman,” says MSCA Executive Director Ashley Kohls. “What do you if someone tries to enter your ranch without permission or protesting? What should you not do or who should you talk to?” Kohls adds discussions also focused on foreign animal diseases. “In the poultry and swine industries, we’re seeing how devastating disease outbreaks can be. For beef, we’ve been fortunate to not have a major, industry-wide outbreak for some time,” says Kohls. “However, we need to prepare ourselves in the case that something, like Foot and Mouth Disease, would hit the United States.”
