While Morocco is the newest addition to the U.S. beef export list, countries such as Japan, Korea and Mexico continue to offer huge export potential. In addition, growth is being seen in Taiwan and other southeast Asian countries. “The Chinese market has also re-opened. While there is huge opportunity there, we’re working to overcome the challenges with tariffs,:” says Greg Hanes, vice president of international marketing programs, U.S. Meat Export Federation. As of late, the U.S. beef industry is focused on the Japanese market. The country is the largest export market in both volume and value for U.S. beef. “The cuts and cooking styles used in Japan are very different from the U.S. They pay premiums for cuts we don’t typically use such as beef tongue and intestines.”
