This year’s sunflower crop is coming in nicely. National Sunflower Association Executive Director John Sandbakken says the crop is approaching the blooming stage, a critical stage of development. “The crop is looking really well in the Dakotas and Minnesota. I think, depending on the location, we’re about 65 to 85 percent in that good-to-excellent category.” Sandbakken says moisture and heat levels have been good for the crop, “but we could use a little bit more because now we’re getting into that bloom period, which is the most critical for sunflowers.”
