A few miles can make a big difference for North Dakota corn this year. NDSU Extension Agronomist Clair Keene says scattered summer rainfall left some fields with little or no grain to harvest, while others are showing surprisingly strong potential. “We started off very dry, and there were some fields that did not even produce an ear or very small ears,” Keene said. Some of those fields were harvested for silage or forage, but without a well-developed ear and limited feed value. There have also been yield estimates of 180 to 200 bushels per acre, but does not believe that is representative.
