Water pH plays an important role in creating an effective tank mix for fungicide and pesticide applications. AgroLiquid agronomist Stephanie Zelenko said applicators should pay close attention to water pH when preparing spray solutions. “Most fungicides are most effective in a pH between five and six-and-a-half or seven. I thought I had pretty neutral water on my home farm, but when I tested it we were in the high eights. We’ve started adding something to bring that pH down, and that’s going to make that fungicide last longer.” She also emphasized following the correct mixing order. “I always recommend guys put their water in first and, if they’re adding foliar nutrition, mix those two first. Then add any conditioning agents and finally add the crop protection products. That’s going to help with compatibility and help keep that product in an effective form longer.” Despite a delayed planting season, Zelenko remains optimistic about crop conditions across the region. “I like the potential we’re seeing in both corn and wheat right now.”
