USDA is investing $105 million in 40 research projects to deal with New World Screwworm. This money comes from USDA’s Grand Challenge that was launched in January to protect the U.S. from screwworm. One of the grants is going to the University of Minnesota for something called M3: Make, Measure and Model which focus on sterile male screwworms with hyperactive sex drives. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and Minnesota Department of Agriculture have projects to promote early NWS identification.
