The American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health hosted an international training program at the Northern Crops Institute in Fargo this past week. Participants came from Ghana, Kenya, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. North Dakota Soybean Council Chair Jim Thompson said the program helps introduce emerging markets to U.S. soybeans and North Dakota agriculture. “They learn the ins and outs of the soybean, what the nutritional values are and what the uses can be. Then they go on a farm visit and see how soybeans are produced and how we raise those crops here in North Dakota,” Thompson said. Thompson said the effort serves as an important first step in developing future export demand for soybeans.
