Lawmakers argue outdated tariff policies have allowed sugar imports to surge more than 700 percent since 2021, pressuring domestic prices and costing U.S. sugar producers an estimated $1.8 billion last year. North Dakota Senator John Hoeven said action is needed to protect American sugarbeet and sugar cane growers.
