Minnesota lawmakers have expanded the state’s Beginning Farmer Tax Credit program by removing the funding cap for 2026 transactions. The change means all eligible applications submitted by the required deadlines can be approved. The program provides tax incentives to landowners who sell or rent farmland, livestock, machinery and other agricultural assets to beginning farmers. The move comes after the program’s available funding was exhausted just two days after applications opened earlier this year. Minnesota Department of Agriculture officials say applicants already placed on the waiting list will be contacted regarding approval. New lease applications will be accepted through July 17, while sale applications remain open through November 1.
