Farmers across the northern Red River Valley are welcoming warmer temperatures after a cool, slow start to the growing season. Clifford, North Dakota farmer Brent Kohls was a stop on Tuesday’s RRFN Crop Watch broadcast. At the time, there was concern about slow emergence due to a lack of GDUs. “We’ve got the moisture so it’s kind of all systems go right now with the heat.” The strong winds seen during the month of May had an impact. “There were some early planted soybeans that were just poking through where saw some replanting to the east of here,” said Kohls. “We get those days like that with sustained winds of 50-plus and we have to be prepared and just be mindful of it with soil preparation.”
