Strong storms swept through Stutsman County, North Dakota, early Friday morning, causing wind damage to farm infrastructure. Cleveland-area farmer Ryan Wanzek reported that numerous grain bins were damaged from the Jamestown area up to Carrington and Kensal. “South of Jamestown isn’t as bad. We’ve got a little bit of crop damage, but nothing horrible,” he said. While wheat harvest remains on schedule, other crops are showing stress. Wanzek noted that soybeans are laying over, increasing concerns about white mold due to ongoing moisture. Corn is beginning to yellow, signaling a need for warmer weather in August and September. “We just can’t buy like a week, ten days of good growing weather.” Rye harvest is nearly complete on the Wanzek farm, with hopes that wheat harvest will advance if drier conditions arrive this week.
