Soybeans remain the #1 crop in North Dakota. At 6.6 million acres, this year’s total is equal to last year. Spring wheat acres declined 350,000 acres from last year, totaling 5 million acres. Corn planted acreage is record high at 4.2 million acres, up 300,000 acres from 2024. North Dakota canola acreage dropped nearly 300,000 acres last year, settling at 1.85 million acres. Canola acreage is down 14 percent from last year, but it is still the third highest planted area in history. North Dakota is the state with the largest increase in sunflower planted acreage from last year, up 173,000 from last year. The planted area for flax is up 199 percent from a year ago. North Dakota acreage is down for dry edible beans and potatoes, and up for barley, durum, oats, sugarbeets and hay.
