According to Pioneer Field Agronomist Kristie Sundeen, a relatively new disease threat is being seen in the traditional canola areas. “Verticillium stripe is relatively new; it was identified in Manitoba in the early 2000s,” said Sundeen. “The negative part is it lasts in the soil for up to 14 years. In our traditional zone where we’ve got tight rotation canola, we’re starting to see a lot more of that disease and the industry does not have a handle on how to combat that disease at this point.”
