Some farms have been luckier than others this spring. “It’s hard to get a pulse on the sugar beets because things are changing so rapidly,” said Tom Peters, Extension sugarbeet specialist. “I haven’t gotten into the east side in Minnesota as much and I think those are the most extreme areas.” Peters says the Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative area has seen significant flooding, “We’ve lost some sugarbeets due to excessive rainfall.” Peters remains optimistic but admits things could be better. “I think if we could get some heat our crop would start really growing and really start developing.”
