Activist Groups Petition for Environmental Transparency

The Humane Society of the United States and the Center for Biological Diversity are taking legal steps to tighten the inspection and regulation of the meat and egg processing industry. Since 1983, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has been excluded from environmental disclosure requirements because it was determined that meat and egg operations have no significant environmental impact. The activist groups want that exemption repealed.
