The warm temperatures this past week caused some temporary interruptions to sugarbeet harvest. “Yields are anywhere from the low to upper 20s, it all depends on what the farmers are working on,” said Mike Metzger, vice president of agriculture, Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative. “It looks like we’ll be around 27 tons and the quality is coming up every day. While warm, sunny days aren’t conducive for long-term storage, they are fantastic for packing on the quality on the crop. The sugars are at 17 to 18 percent.” As beet harvest enters the second week, Metzger reminds harvest crews to focus on safety. “Just take it slow, be safe and let’s go home at the end of the day.”
