World Weather Incorporated Senior Agricultural Meteorologist Drew Lerner said the biggest damage to corn, soybeans and flax from this week’s frost and freezes is likely in the Canadian Prairies. In the Dakotas, there is lots of variation from one area to another. “There are some areas significantly impacted, but it all depends on how much of the region is irrigated. The dry land fields are way ahead of themselves in the west where drought was present and some of those crops were already well developed and not impacted in a major way,” said Lerner. “However, the irrigated fields or the areas with more rainfall probably saw a greater amount of potential damage. The further east you travel, the greater the incidence of the damage.” Conditions are expected to warm going into the next few days, helping farmers make harvest progress.
