The Senate’s version of the phase four economic stimulus package could propose around $34 billion to help farmers and ranchers. According to North Dakota Senator John Hoeven, the Senate isn’t approaching an increase in the Commodity Credit Corporation in this proposal because the score from the Congressional Budget Office would be too high. “Essentially, what we’ve done now is included $20 billion in the legislation in direct appropriations. There’s also $14 billion available in the CCC this month.” While the text of the legislation wasn’t final when Hoeven visited with the Red River Farm Network, Hoeven said lawmakers tried to focus on needs. Ag lobbyists anticipate language to include aid for biofuels, funds to reimburse farmers for having to euthanize healthy livestock and more.
