According to American Soybean Association CEO Ryan Findlay, 2020 is off to a strong start for the U.S. soybean industry. “On January 1, the U.S.- Japan Trade Agreement took effect and now, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement and a phase one deal with China are signed.” Enforcement of the agreements will be important, especially with China. “We’ve never held China accountable to follow the rules. Let’s hold them accountable, get a phase two agreement in place and get rid of the tariffs so we can work our way out of this trade war. It all begins with accountability.” Findlay also says there are month-to-month dialogues included in the phase one deal. “It’s set up to make sure China is held accountable, but we’re going to test that right away with biotechnology and the coronavirus.” Findlay attended the Northern Corn and Soybean Expo in Fargo.
