While canola had a rough start, the crop is showing signs of improvement over the last month. CROPLAN by WinField United U.S. product manager Mark Torno says flea beetles were a challenge at emergence. Fields that were treated in time look tremendous. “It is uniforming out, but could use a shot of rain in the north right now.” Throughout the Dakotas and Minnesota, the first sunflower fields are starting to bloom. Torno says now is the time for farmers to have discussions about spraying for seed weevils and fungicide application. “Out of all the crops, the sunflowers have handled the variable weather well.” Looking down the road with the sunflower crop, Torno also reminds farmers to be looking for stalk diseases.
