The Senate Agriculture Committee’s effort to advance a new five-year farm bill stalled Thursday after lawmakers failed to reach agreement on changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. In the hearing, North Dakota Senator John Hoeven urged lawmakers to support the legislation and continue working on remaining differences later. “I think we understand that our colleagues on the other side of the table are going to continue to work for changes in the SNAP program, no matter what we do, but his provides a one-year extension and it gets help now that our farmers badly need.”
