Hot, dry weather was the rule when canola was flowering. Pioneer Field Agronomist Kristie Sundeen expects to see the impact at harvest time. “Last year we had low acres, but really, really good yields,” said Sundeen. “I expect production’s probably going to be the same. We have way more acres, but I expect that yields are going to be down, unfortunately.” Disease pressure is also evident in canola. “My biggest worry is verticillium stripe. Nobody can see it, but it’s there.” Verticillium Stripe will shut down the xylem, affecting standability.
