The candidates on the Farmfest stage Tuesday included the two individuals vying for Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District. Incumbent Collin Peterson, who is the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, expressed concern about the current trade and tariff situation. “I don’t see how this is going to play out on a positive basis for agriculture; it may play out well for steel and manufacturing jobs, but we’re the ones that will get hurt in the end.” Republican challenger David Hughes has a different take on the trade war. Hughes says the White House approach is short-term leverage for long-term results. “I am super-confident and supportive of President Trump’s measures right now and I’m very confident they’re going to yield positive net gains for agriculture and the greater American economy.”
