American Sugarbeet Growers Association Executive Vice-President Luther Markwart says congressional staff are working on the upcoming farm bill. “They’re going to work hard so they can get a lot of maybe some of the small things resolved. And then, when the members come back after Labor Day they’ll have bigger issues to tackle. They want to get this bill done as quickly as they can. I don’t think anybody is projecting exactly when it will be done. I think the big question is if can they get it done before before the first of October.” Markwart says farmers are hurting and lawmakers need to get a farm bill completed.
