Recent rains are improving the drought conditions across the Dakotas and Minnesota, but many counties are still experiencing abnormal dryness to exceptional drought. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows an improvement in exceptional conditions in Benson, Eddy or Wells Counties in North Dakota. There is a reduction in drought severity along the southern Red River Valley and in central North Dakota, moving from extreme to severe drought. Southeastern Richland County, North Dakota is no longer in a drought. In northwest Minnesota, the diagonal line of exceptional drought declined, mostly in Norman County. Portions of Wilkins, Traverse and Big Stone Counties are no longer in a drought. In South Dakota, portions of seven counties in the northeastern corner of the state are not showing any dryness.
