The USDA will invest $464 million to build or improve renewable energy infrastructure across the country. In Minnesota, seven farms received grants to purchase and install grain dryers. North Dakota and South Dakota farms also received grants to purchase and install grain drying systems. In North Dakota, Red Trail Energy LLC will be using a $25 million loan to build a carbon-capture processing and storage facility at an ethanol manufacturing facility. This project is estimated to provide a 40 to 50 percent reduction in the carbon intensity score of the ethanol produced at the company.
