A bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed a framework for more COVID-19 emergency relief. The proposal has a price tag of $908 billion with $288 billion for additional small business support and $26 billion for agriculture and nutrition. South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is part of the Problem Solvers Caucus that drafted the framework. “I think our efforts changed the discussion,” said Johnson. “The cost we’ve proposed is one-third or a quarter of what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wanted, but this is what the country needs right now. This package could pass the House and Senate and be signed into law. If the number goes higher or lower, there will be fewer votes.” Johnson said there is flexibility in the proposed spending for legislative leaders. “Exactly how the money for nutrition, ag producers and processors would go out, we haven’t determined all of the details yet, but we do know there are families and farmers hurting.”
