Cook Political Report Senior Editor David Wasserman believes Democrats can take control of the House and have a better-than-even chance of winning the Senate in the November midterm elections. Speaking on Ag Bull Media’s podcast, Wasserman said current polling in competitive House districts points to a significant Democratic gain. “When I push all of our toss-ups in the House in one direction or the other based on the current polling we’re seeing, I get to Democrats gaining about 20 House seats,” Wasserman said. That outcome would give Democrats approximately 235 House seats. Wasserman puts the chances of Democrats taking control of the Senate at 60 to 65 percent. Wasserman said economic frustration in farm country remains a factor in the election. He believes the $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program could help Republicans with some wavering rural voters, although high diesel prices remain a concern. He also said frustrated farm voters may be more likely to stay home than switch parties. Watch the interview.
