Warm temperatures this past week resulted in a stop-and-start sugarbeet harvest in the Red River Valley. Hallock, Minnesota farmer Dan Younggren says the heat limited around the clock stockpiling, but there are some benefits to the warmer weather. “Not being able to pile sugarbeets all day long because of the heat is is not all that bad because we know when we get back in when the conditions will be very good, the warm, sunny temperatures also bring the sugar content of the of the beets up so it’s kind of a win-win.” Despite the interruptions, Younggren said the beets coming out of the ground are in excellent condition with good prospects for long term storage and the processing season.”
