With the trade war with the United States intensifying, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wants a closer relationship with the European Union. Carney has spoken with top European leaders about becoming an associate member of the EU or finding other ways to develop an alliance. In response, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said Canada could be the 28th state of the European Union rather than the 51st state of the United States.
