Dry conditions are pushing crops toward an early finish in southeast North Dakota. At Oakes, Scott German says crop stress is becoming increasingly visible, particularly on poorer soils and hilltops. The corn is running out of water and cannibalizing itself, “getting to maturity faster than what you’d want to see.” German is concerned that the rapid maturity could lead to lower test weight, which would also reduce yield.
