For New Salem, North Dakota farmer Jim Bahm, severe weather took a significant toll on his acres. About 80 acres of wheat and canola were hit by hail and high winds. “Canola got about 50 to 75 percent hailed out.” Bahm estimates the canola would have yielded close to a ton per acre, but the damaged crop produced only about 800 pounds per acre. Hail-damaged wheat dropped to about 25 bushels per acre. The storm was strong enough to roll hay bales across the farm.
