USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has ramped up its regulations involving potato imports from Prince Edward Island in Canada. With the change, any U.S. facility handling bulk loads of these potatoes must dispose of waste material from processing, repacking or other operations in an APHIS-approved manner. The National Potato Council welcomed this action, saying it addresses the threat of potato wart disease.
