President Donald Trump announced plans to import 300,000 metric tons of ground beef on a tariff-free basis for 90 days. In his Truth Social post, Trump said the imported beef would be sold 25 percent below market prices. Martinson Ag Risk Management President Randy Martinson questioned the move. “I thought we would have maybe learned from the Argentina fiasco that we shouldn’t be importing a lot of beef at this point,” Martinson told RRFN. “You know, let the market take care of the problem itself, which it would if the price gets too high; the consumer will back away.” Martinson referenced the volatility seen when Trump signed an executive order to quadruple the amount of lean beef trimmings from Argentina.
