Rye is being harvested near Karlstad. “For the season we’re about 50 percent of normal rainfall, but in June we had about four inches, and that was beneficial,” said Justin Dagen. Shallow-rooted crops are beginning to show stress, but corn and wheat remain in good shape. The recent stretch of hot weather has pushed crop development ahead of normal across northwestern Minnesota. “Our growing degree units are slightly ahead of average now, so it will largely be an early harvest for many of our commodities.”
