The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association showcased cattle feeding facilities Tuesday in the Drake area with its annual feedlot tour. “The main goal initially when we started was to promote these operations that have taken that first step to environmental compliance and constructed facilities that meet animal feeding operation guidelines,” said Scott Ressler, environmental services director, NDSA. NDSU Extension Livestock Specialist Karl Hoppe said feedlots offer producers another avenue for growth and profitability. Hoppe encouraged producers interested in feeding cattle to visit existing operations, attend educational programs and work closely with lenders and technical advisors before expanding.
