After a slow start, the GDUs are back on track and crops are progressing well. Syngenta Crop Protection Agronomic Service Representative Jason Snell says weed pressure has been significant; every spray rig is rolling whenever the wind dies down. Farmers should prepare for increasing disease pressure. “If this weather pattern continues warm and wet, we have some pretty good conditions for disease in most all crops,” said Snell. Sugarbeets will likely be among the first crops requiring close monitoring. Fusarium risk in cereals could increase within the next month, while white mold may again become a concern in broadleaf crops. “Those conditions look pretty ideal for disease development,” he said. “It’s good to stay in front of that with your protection.”
