The Kansas wheat harvest is advancing with better-than-expected yields and grain quality despite drought concerns earlier this season. U.S. Custom Harvesters Incorporated Board Advisor Paul Paplow says harvest results have been encouraging. “What we harvested in Kiowa, I’m going to say we’re around a 35-bushel average,” said Paplow. “I think it was better than people expected. The quality’s been really good though, a lot of 63- to 64-pound test weight and 13 to 14 percent protein.” Harvest activity is expected to continue moving north as crews follow the crop through the central Plains.
