Farmers in central North Dakota are reporting good early-season crop conditions following a favorable spring planting season.”We started on April 30th and I think we finished somewhere around the 18th with everything,” said Mike Clemens, who farms at Wimbeldon. “It really went fast this year. We didn’t have all the snow to melt and all the potholes to deal with. We had fields that were ready to go.” Soybeans are up and growing, while some corn fields could be ready for post-emerge herbicide applications within days. Recent rainfall has also improved crop prospects. “That really healed up all the mistakes that you made in the field if you planted too shallow. We’ve got good subsoil moisture underneath, so I’d have to say we’re sitting pretty good right now.”
