New Salem, North Dakota farmer Jim Bahm says the rains have been highly variable in his area. Pasture conditions have improved, although hay production may be below normal if the rains don’t come. “Cattle are out in the pastures now; I don’t know, it might have been a week early, but they’re all out. The grass looked bad there for a while because it was so cold. The hay is headed out; it’s kinda short so we might have a smaller crop this year.” Bahm said growers are now focusing on spraying canola, wheat, and soybeans while keeping an eye on emerging weed pressure.”
