Farmers are being encouraged to closely monitor wheat fields as cool-season weeds gain momentum across the Northern Plains. Bayer Glyphosate Business Territory Sales Manager Anne Nalewaja said weeds like lambsquarters, wild buckwheat and ragweed are advancing quickly. “Please be proactive and go out and check your wheat fields because these cool-season weeds are growing and they’re growing fast,” said Nalewaja. “That buckwheat is going from two to three to four leaves, and once it gets a little bigger, it’s very difficult to control.” With wheat and corn being sprayed, Nalewaja advises farmers not to cut herbicide rates. “If you’re doing all the work, make sure you’ve got the right rate.”
