Northarvest Bean Growers Association Board President Tony Richards says edible bean producers continue pushing for stronger USDA specialty crop support. Richards raised the issue during Senator John Hoeven’s ag roundtable in Fargo. In his view, dry bean growers have often been overlooked in disaster and assistance programs. “We need to fight for our growers to maintain because it is crucial,” Richards said. Richards noted edible beans remain an important and profitable crop option for farms in North Dakota and Minnesota, particularly on acres less suited for corn and soybeans.
