Ranchers across North Dakota are being urged to prepare drought management plans as dry conditions continue to impact forage growth prospects. “Ranchers should be preparing for forage shortages this growing season,” Miranda Meehan, NDSU Extension Environmental Stewardship Specialist, said. “A lot of areas are still at 50 percent of normal.” Meehan noted producers have only a short window remaining to receive the rain needed for forage development. “We only have five weeks until the end of June to receive the precipitation needed to grow around 90 percent of our forage in the state of North Dakota.”
