Dry edible bean planting is expected to accelerate rapidly across northeastern North Dakota over the coming week. Johnstown Bean Company General Manager Dylan Karley expects favorable temperatures to accelerate planting progress. “I think we’ll probably see two-thirds of the crop in North Dakota get planted (this week).” Karley also expects a sharp drop in edible bean acreage this season as soybean prices strengthen. “We’ll see a drop in acres on pinto beans and black beans, probably in the 20-to-30 percent decline range,” Karley said. “A lot of those swing acres have fallen the way of soybeans.”
