Dry conditions and persistent winds are beginning to concern producers in southwest North Dakota as planting season moves ahead quickly. New England, North Dakota farmer Devin Wert said subsoil moisture remains decent, but topsoil conditions are deteriorating fast. “Things have been going good. We have decent moisture underneath, but it hasn’t rained all spring really, so that’s concerning.” Wert said producers are now anxiously waiting for rainfall to help newly planted crops emerge. “It would be real nice to help everything that we’ve seeded germinate. Some of it’s maybe getting in the dry dirt now, especially with the wind blowing, sucking it out.”
