Farmers across Minnesota and North Dakota made major planting progress during the past two weeks despite high winds and blowing dust. Peterson Lead Agronomist Rick Swenson said farmers moved quickly through corn and soybean planting. “Soil conditions have been great, the crop has gone in really fast.” Swenson said most growers stuck with their original crop plans despite concerns over fertilizer prices earlier this year. “There was a little bit, I think, where we cut back a little bit from a fertilizer standpoint, really trying to hone in and figure up the nitrogen, but as a whole, I didn’t see a lot of changing that way.” Growers are now watching closely for emergence issues tied to blowing residue and continued dry weather.
