The American Crystal Sugar Company beet stock trading season has likely ended. According to Acres & Shares broker, Jayson Menke, 4,884 shares were brokered for an average price of $4,060.17 per share. “Based on the forecast payment last fall, I think most people thought shares traded higher than what they expected,” Menke said. “Part of the stronger price was because the planting tolerance dropped two percent, which is about 12,000 to 13,000 acres. Some growers probably don’t want to get any bigger but don’t want to get smaller either.” Menke said after a slow start, trading volume was above the brokered average for the season; however, beet stock is very thinly traded with one percent or less of outstanding shares brokered each year.
