During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds raised issues about cell-cultivated products entering the food supply and being labeled as traditional meat. “South Dakota farmers and ranchers work tirelessly to produce some of the safest and highest-quality products in the world. I have concerns regarding lab-grown cells or cell-cultivated products attempting to enter the U.S. food system, posing as meat.” Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the administration shares those concerns and will closely scrutinize the products. “We’re gonna exercise the FDA’s oversight over them. They’re gonna have to get through a lot of skepticism to show that they’re safe.”
